...and drove for 11 hours today and we are still in Texas.
Leaving Austin and saying Good-bye to daughter Hillary and her husband Chris along with Andre their dog wasn't easy, they made our stay just perfect.

We left at 8:30 as in a.m. and initially we were going against rush hour, but then for about 20 miles it was a crawl.

The terrain started to change in Johnson City, yes the home of LBJ. Signage everywhere told us about the former President and the Firdt Lady "Lady Bird".

Then came Fredericksburg and I was amazed at the Texas Hill Country and the huge German roots it has. Since we made lodging reservations in El Paso we did not have time to dawdle and kept on going. The U-Haul folks recommend a max of 55, but we set the cruise control for 65. With the speed limit on the secondary roads at 70 and I-10 at 80 mph we did not want to pose a safety hazard.

Around Ft Stockton we encountered a typical Western thunderstorm with lots of lightning.

The the terrain hanged again to the prairie type transitioning to a mountain range. Then surprisingly we entered the mountain time zone and gained an hour.
